First Usability Study

There is no replacement for doing real usability studies on test users home computers.  We did our first usability study on Saturday with users in their home environments and were treated to an epic (albeit mostly expected) beat down.  While the Internet Explorer compatibility issues were expected, JavaScript errors absent from our own machines were a surprise and severely limited site functionality.  When testing a site, get out of the house and watch your friends do it on their laptops – our infrastructure worked well on our own machines but quite poorly on our friends machines.  Lesson learned!
